    I was provided information from Ralph Tuttle whose research can be found in his book "SOME DESCENDANTS OF JOHN COLE (BORN 1669 IN MARYLAND) AND WIVES JOHANNA GARRETT AND DINAH HAWKINS" BY RALPH E. TUTTLE APRIL 24, 2001. It is fully referenced.
    Stephen Cole married Rachel Gorsuch who then died prior to 1803. Stephen married Rachel's sister Elizabeth Gorsuch 4 Feb 1803 in Baltimore County Maryland.
    Researching with my cousin Garry Dove, we found In Fairfield County, Ohio the marriage record of James Johnson and Eliza Cole on 31 Oct 1828 in "Fairfield County Marriages 1803-1835". We can find the family in the subsequent census in Monroe Twp. Licking County, Ohio (1830, 1840 and 1850). James died in 1859 and Eliza can be found in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census) She died in 1894 in Monroe Twp. Licking County, Ohio.
    It took many years to piece together Eliza Cole's father. Her mother Elizabeth was found early in my research living with her Daughter Eliza and husband James Johnson in the 1850 census (page 389) for Licking County, Ohio aged 74 years.
    We also found Elizabeth Gorsuch Cole burried next to James Johnson and Eliza Cole in Tullar Cemetery just west of Johnstown, Ohio on Rt. 62. Her head stone says "Elizabeth, Wife of S. Cole". So then we knew Elizabeth married S, Cole later found to be Stephen Cole from Ralph Tuttle's research. From there you can match up the family as listed in the censuses for Amanda Township, Fairfield County, Ohio.
    Further in the 1850 census you can find Stephen and Rachel's son (Eliza's half brother) Micajah Cole in an adjoining land tract to James and Eliza Johnson.

The original stone of James Johnson with a simple "J J" inscription. James died in 1859 and this simple stone marked the grave and still exists.

The broken stone of Elizabeth Gorsuch, "Elizabeth - Wife of S. Cole" found two stones north of the final head stone of James Johnson and Eliza Cole. She died 7 Nov 1856. When we found Elizabeth's stone about 25 years ago the stone was broken but the date was legible. We should have taken a picture then but we didn't.

The final stone of James Johnson and Eliza Cole installed likely when Eliza died in 1894. James Johnson was born 1 Dec 1805 in Baltimore County, MD but his parents have not been found yet (Help me if you can). Eliza was born 24 Oct 1810 in Circleville, Amanda Twp., Fairfield County, Ohio.

From the front you can see the relationship of the "J J" stone just south or right of the final head stone.
I am only an amateur Genealogist so I don't know if the above is absolute proof but if not the information falls in line nicely in tying the families together.

Item Two:

What Happened to Daughter Elisabeth Johnson, Daughter of James and Eliza

I have successfully traced the families of James and Eliza (Cole) Johnson. The exception is Elizabeth. Here is the family in the 1850 Census in Monroe Township, Licking County, Ohio:

Here is the only civil record I have located for Elisabeth Johnson Orbut so far. Note that Eliza’s mother Elisabeth (Gorsuch) Cole wife of Steven Cole is living with them but she was actually born in Maryland, not Ohio.

We know from her brother James obituary that she died Elisabeth Orbut. In her sister Eleanor Johnson Stewart's obituary in September 1901 she is not listed as a surviving sister as her other living brothers and sisters are. This information leads us to believe she died prior to her sister Eleanor who died in September 22, 1901.

She may not have married Mr. Orbut first. The Orbut name leaves very few records that I can find and I hope I am contacted when we prove what happened to Elisabeth. Was she Elisabeth something lse before she was Elisabeth Orbut.
